TTP LabTech will be showcasing its new mosquito® LCP liquid handler at the annual meeting of the American Crystallographic Association, Chicago, Illinois, July 24-29. The mosquito LCP is a dedicated liquid handler that has been designed to facilitate the crystallisation of membrane proteins, such as G-protein coupled receptors, by offering a fully automated solution to lipid cubic phase (LCP) screening.

It incorporates an auto-homing positive displacement syringe for the accurate and repeatable dispensing of LCP in addition to the standard disposable, positive displacement mosquito tips that guarantee zero cross contamination. This novel automation system enables LCP screening to be performed accurately and with ease and increases the throughput of crystallisation set-ups.

Joby Jenkins, mosquito Product Manager, TTP LabTech commented, “Following the late 2009 launch, mosquito LCP has generated great excitement and interest within the crystallography community.” He continued, “There are a number of technical difficulties that are regularly encountered when working with the LCP method such as liquid viscosity, the accurate dispensing of the LCP and the precise positioning of the drop. The mosquito LCP has been developed to overcome all these challenges and we are very pleased with the outcome”.
